In March 2012, the Landon Undergraduate School of Business of the College of Business Administration at Florida International University (FIU) ranked 109th in the Bloomberg Businessweek rankings. It was the sixth time in seven years that the college was included in the publication?s ?The Best Undergrad B-Schools? survey.
When the publication released the rankings for specialty categories in May 2012, the news got even better for FIU Business.
The college?s international business specialty ranked eighth, climbing from 21st the prior year.
?International business is one of our four strategic areas of focus, which makes this recognition particularly gratifying for us,? said Joyce J. Elam, executive dean. ?It is one way to confirm that our efforts at the undergraduate level continue to move in the right direction.?
Success in other categories adds to the college?s standing.
Bloomberg Businessweek evaluates 14 academic disciplines as part of its specialty rankings. The business school was in the top 100 in all specialties, including two other strategic areas for the college: entrepreneurship and financial services.
It ranked in the top 25 in four specialty areas: 11th in operations management, 17th in sustainability, 20th in information systems and 25th in marketing. It was in the top 50 in three other specialties: 27th in ethics, 41st in business law and 49th in entrepreneurship. Finally, the college ranked 51st in quantitative methods, 55th in finance, 57th in both micro and macro economics, 64th in corporate strategy and 99th in accounting.
?Our position in the top 100 in each category is a tribute to our faculty members who work tirelessly to deliver engaging, relevant and high-quality courses, and to the staff members who support them,? Elam said. ?It?s affirming to hear from our students that we are giving them the preparation that they need to succeed.?
The rankings are based on surveys completed by 85,000 students. An interactive list of the top-ranked undergraduate business programs by specialty appears at http://www.businessweek.com/interactive_reports/top_undergrad_bschools_by_specialty_2012.html.
