The children are tucked in and it?s time to read them the end of this bedtime story. Steve Williams took to his website on Wednesday to apologize for the comments that he made to CBS and assembled press after Adam Scott won the WGC Bridgestone Invitational on Sunday, saying the time at Firestone was the ?best week of [his] life.?
?There has been considerable debate following the comments I made at the conclusion of Sunday?s Bridgestone Invitational. It was a complete surprise to have CBS announcer, David Feherty ask for an interview following the completion of play. My emotions following Adam?s victory were running very high and at the time I felt like my emotions poured out and got the better of me.
?I apologize to my fellow caddies and professionals for failing to mention Adam?s outstanding performance. I would like to thank all those fans at Firestone who made this victory the most special of my career.?
It?s somewhat surprising that Williams implicated Feherty, even vaguely, though it?s not like a caddie gets many post-victory interviews ? something noted in our initial reaction to the comments here.
In the days that have followed, though, a lot of players (and, with less fanfare, caddies) have weighed in on what Williams said and how he acted. Most of it was negative, if barely neutral. That likely prompted the step back from the level of his comments.
