Pujols hit a legendary bomb at Glendale in the Holiday Tournament.

For 39 years the week of the 4th of July has brought baseball to the Ozarks. The Price Cutter Holiday Tournament has featured its fair share of Major League talent over the years. Names like Brian McRae (Blue Springs), Jason Isringhausen (Illinois), David Segui (Kansas City), and an infielder from Independence whose name you might recognize: Albert Pujols. Aside from hitting a legendary home run at Glendale High School, Pujols won the tourney?s Mr. Hustle Award, hitting .500 with a pair of homers in ?97. In ?98, El Hombre was named to the All-Tournament team at shortstop after he batted .653 with 4 home runs.

The 40th edition of the Price Cutter Holiday Tournament opens today (6/29), with 28 teams playing at seven area sites. Branson, Ozark, Parkview, Kickapoo, Springfield Catholic, Willard, and Republic will host 3 games a day each on Wednesday and Thursday, with the pool championship at each site Friday night. The tournament moves to Meador Park, home of the Drury Panthers, on Saturday for bracket play starting at 9 a.m., with the championship taking place at 2pm on Sunday.
