Former Oklahoma State receiver Bo Bowling sticks with Montreal ...

MONTREAL, Quebec, Can. ? ?

Bo Bowling is a pro football player.

Saturday, the former Oklahoma State University receiver, survived the final cut, making the Montreal Alouettes' practice roster. ?I knew coming in that they were deep at receiver and it would be tough to get a spot. It?s not just about talent. It?s about the number of players they can carry,? Bowling said in a telephone interview from Montreal. ?But, I?m still here and I can be activated any week. So it?s exciting.? The Alouettes assigned the former Oklahoma State University receiver to the practice squad Saturday as the defending two-time Grey Cup champion set its 46-player roster. Canadian Football League teams have 46-player rosters of which only 42 suit up for games. CFL teams may place up to seven players, but only five import (non-Canadian players) on the practice roster. ?It was nerve-wracking ? not knowing was the hard part,? he said. ?After they talked to me, told me the situation and what they wanted, I was happy. It?s a chance to play pro football. You can?t beat it.? Details of Bowling?s contract were unavailable, but most practice-roster squad members in the CFL earn around $550 a week. Bowling played in both Montreal?s exhibition games. Wednesday, he caught two passes for 14 yards in a 57-20 loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Bowling's? longest reception was 11 yards. Two Montreal players Prechae Rodriguez and Tim Maypray led the Alouettes with four and three receptions, respectively. Bowling, Dallas Baker and running back Emmanuel Marc were next with two catches apiece. In the preseason opener against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Bowling grabbed seven passes for 67 yards, including a 9-yard TD pass. It was Bowling?s first touchdown reception since Oklahoma State?s 2008 game against Texas. The catch came on his first play in the CFL. ?I stepped on the field and scored a touchdown. It was unreal. It had been a while. That first play got me rolling. It got me started,? he said.
