High school baseball: Manteno gets back on winning track

Two days removed from having its 12-game winning streak snapped, Manteno got back on track by sweeping a doubleheader from host Cissna Park on Saturday.

Manteno won 12-3 in the opener and then grabbed a 7-2 win in the second game.

A pair of five-run innings lifted the Panthers (14-1) in the opening game. Joey DiLeo, Billy Liss and Ryan Sample each had two hits in support of JJ Witherow, who won his first decision of the year.

Witherow used his bat to fuel Manteno in the second game. Witherow rapped a pair or triples in the contest. Mark Reardanz also added two hits.

Alex Rabe had three hits for Cissna Park (5-10) in the second game.

Peotone 6-7, Crete-Monee 1-8

The Blue Devils just missed a chance at a doubleheader sweep because of a late-inning collapse in the second game.

Matt Harper was strong in the opener for Peotone (7-5).
