iOS 6 Beta: 7 Features You May Not Know About (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

Ios 6 Beta

Apple revealed the biggest new iOS 6 features at this week's WWDC, but there are still a ton more goodies that users haven't seen yet.

Sometimes it's the little things in life that count.

Following Apple's recent reveal of the upcoming iOS 6 software for iDevices, developers began playing around with a beta version of the software and are discovering even more features that weren't detailed by Apple.

These smaller finds may not be as glitzy as the debut of Apple's Maps app or Facebook integration, but the slight changes in functionality and design can make all the difference to consumers when Apple releases the final version of iOS 6.

Check out the gallery (below) to see seven awesome features developers have found so far in the iOS 6 beta you may not know about. Then, check out which of the most trumpeted iOS 6 features won't be coming to older-generation Apple devices (here).

  • VIP Email

Critical emails will no longer get lost in your inbox. With iOS 6's new email feature, users can <a href="http://www.cultofmac.com/173119/ios-6-adds-per-person-email-alerts/" target="_hplink">elect certain people as VIPs</a>, so they will only receive notifications when messages arrive from those important few.

  • Privacy Settings

<a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/15/iphone-privacy-app-path-facebook-twitter-apple_n_1279497.html" target="_hplink">Remember "Pathgate"</a> and Apple's subsequent <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/15/apple-privacy-policy-apps_n_1279797.html" target="_hplink">changes to app privacy policy requirements</a>? Apple's hoping to avoid similar uproars by tweaking its privacy settings in iOS 6. Now, <a href="http://www.cultofmac.com/173128/new-ios-6-privacy-settings-limit-access-to-photos-contact-calendars-and-more/" target="_hplink">users choose which apps have access contacts, calendars, reminders, and photos</a>.

  • Spotlight Upgrade

Searching an Apple mobile device just became easier with this iOS 6 tweak to <a href="http://www.pcworld.com/article/257523/ios_6_features_you_might_have_missed.html" target="_hplink">Apple's Spotlight search</a> function. Instead of merely listing all apps, docs, music files and emails with the given word (as seen in the photo), the search will also feature the folder where each search result is located.

  • New Download Banner

Apple devices running iOS 6 will draw <a href="http://www.geekfori.com/ios-6-features-you-may-not-know-about/" target="_hplink">explicit attention to recent downloads</a> with a special <a href="http://www.cultofmac.com/173126/new-in-ios-6-more-emoji-icons-banners-for-new-apps-badges-for-reminders-app/" target="_hplink">"new" banner</a> across app icons. The banner will disappear after the app has been used for the first time.

  • Installed Emoji Icons

While iOS 5 users had to either <a href="http://www.cultofmac.com/171687/unlock-apples-hidden-emoji-icons-in-ios-5-1-with-this-simple-tweak-jailbreak/" target="_hplink">jailbreak</a> their device or <a href="http://www.iphonehacks.com/2011/10/how-to-enable-emoji-icons-in-ios-5-without-jailbreaking.html" target="_hplink">follow a simple trick</a> to enable emoji, iOS 6 will have instant access to the emoticons, which <a href="http://www.cultofmac.com/173126/new-in-ios-6-more-emoji-icons-banners-for-new-apps-badges-for-reminders-app/" target="_hplink">come pre-installed</a> within the newest Apple mobile operating system.

  • Status Bar Color Change

In iOS 6, the color of the upper <a href="http://www.ubergizmo.com/2012/06/status-bars-in-ios-6-changes-color-based-on-the-app-youre-running/" target="_hplink">status bar changes to suit the color</a> of the app that is running, as <a href="http://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/uxvo3/the_new_status_bar_in_ios_6_is_not_blue_but/" target="_hplink">pointed out by a Reddit user</a>. For example, the status bar changes from its usual blue to a light blue color for users logged into Skype.

  • Share Screen Icons

While Facebook integration may be the talk of the town, Apple's <a href="http://www.pcworld.com/article/257523/ios_6_features_you_might_have_missed.html" target="_hplink">improved share screen</a>, which features icons instead of a list of possible ways to share something, is pretty cool in and of itself.
