AboutTeam River Runner

Team River Runner (TRR), was established in 2004 as a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization to help active duty military personnel wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan who were recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Hospital.

Wounded service members endure many months of surgeries, physical and psychological therapy, prosthetic fittings, and other life-altering changes. Against this backdrop, a number of these injured men and women welcome a chance to pick up a new challenge, and get out of the daily routine of their hospital treatment several days each week. TRR offers not only unique whitewater kayaking experiences but also the support of a tight-knit paddling community for wounded veterans and their families. Veterans served by TRR learn leadership skills that prepare them to become chapter and national trip leaders. Future goals will be for the TRR participants to teach adaptive kayaking to children who are fighting their own battles?with diseases such as cancer and multiple sclerosis.

TRR is a chapter of Disabled Sports USA.
