Weather update: Floyd County under severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. - Rome gets .43 inches of rain
Strong storms rip through Floyd County

slideshow A brief of powerful deluge dropped .43 inches of rain on Floyd County this afternoon. At least one homeowner has reported damage from a falling tree off Billy Pyle Road.Damage has been reported in Calhoun as well.
A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Floyd County until 9 p.m. A strong thunderstorm has been reported near Lyerly moving Northeast at 65 mph. The storms have the capability of producing large hail and damaging wind.
Previously posted: Rain showers are likely today with the possibility of afternoon thunderstorms today, according to the National Weather Service.
Today's high will reach near 64 and it will be a windy one with gusts as high as 20 mph. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Tonight showers are likely, mainly before 9 p.m. and the low will drop to around 33 tonight.
