Weather update: Floyd County under severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. - Rome gets .43 inches of rain

Strong storms rip through Floyd County

slideshow A brief of powerful deluge dropped .43 inches of rain on Floyd County this afternoon. At least one homeowner has reported damage from a falling tree off Billy Pyle Road.

Damage has been reported in Calhoun as well.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Floyd County until 9 p.m. A strong thunderstorm has been reported near Lyerly moving Northeast at 65 mph. The storms have the capability of producing large hail and damaging wind.

Previously posted: Rain showers are likely today with the possibility of afternoon thunderstorms today, according to the National Weather Service.

Today's high will reach near 64 and it will be a windy one with gusts as high as 20 mph. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tonight showers are likely, mainly before 9 p.m. and the low will drop to around 33 tonight.

Wednesday Partly sunny, with a high near 47. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.

Thursday Sunny, with a high near 57. North wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Friday Night Mostly clear, with a low around 33.

Saturday Sunny, with a high near 67.

Saturday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40.

Sunday Partly sunny, with a high near 70.

Sunday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 44.

Monday A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 65.
