Nintendo Wii fall in new Japan sales

Sales for Nintendo Co.?s Wii hardware ranked as the sixth top-selling hardware in Japan in the latest retail data from the region.

Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the Wii sold 4,849 units between Oct. 1 and Oct. 7 to rank No. 6 in overall sales.

By comparison, the Wii sold 5,421 units the week prior.

The hardware did not rank any titles in the top 10.

Nintendo in July recorded a $220 million loss in the first quarter due to declining sales of the Wii console.

In the quarter ending June 30, held a net loss of $220 million on revenue of $1.08 billion.

Nintendo sold 710,000 Wii units between Apr. and June, less than half of the 1.6 million units sold in the same period last year.

The Wii holds a global install base of 51 million units.

Nintendo will release Wii U, the successor the Wii hardware, Nov. 18.
